From Ålesund to Runde, we once again motored due to the lack of wind – the price to pay for the persistently fine weather. In the afternoon, we hiked up to the viewpoint from which puffins can be observed. There was not much activity, though; most likely we were simply too early. As the birds are so beautiful and fascinating, we included a few photos from an earlier visit.

The following day was dedicated to an extended hike to the island’s other bird cliffs. Particularly impressive was the large gannet colony, which makes Runde one of Norway’s most important seabird hotspots.

Before leaving Ålesund, we had found a yard that could weld the bracket for our flagpole – though not until a few days later. So from Runde we returned once more to Ålesund, spent the night at the yard’s pier, and were able to set off towards Ona the following morning once the work was done. At least parts of this leg could be sailed.

Ona itself is one of those small, idyllic fishing islands that today also offer visiting yachts a relaxed stopover. After a walk around the island, we enjoyed an excellent dinner at the local restaurant.

The next day, we continued – once again under engine – to Storholmsvågen. From there, we planned to explore the Atlantic Road by bicycle the following day. The weather, with heavy cloud cover, was not ideal for photography, but the road is impressive nonetheless, and we found ourselves travelling in the footsteps of James Bond. The day after, we continued our passage to Kristiansund.
